At my standing desk. Standing.

I got the standing desk set up last night. A friend asked for a picture because she’s thinking of doing the same, and I do plan to post a picture, but there’s really not much to show. It’s my regular desk. On top of the regular desk is a half-height bookshelf laid on its side. I put the display, keyboard, trackpad, and other desktop accoutrements on top of the bookshelf (which would be the side if the bookshelf were standing the normal way).

I tried it a few minutes last night, and at first it felt somewhat awkward. I was too close to the display. Then I took a half-step back and it felt fine and natural. I have a couple of hours of work to do today, and we’ll see how it goes. My friends who’ve switched to standing desks describe some foot pain for the first few days, I’m hoping my hour a day of walking for the past two years will minimize or eliminate that adjustment.

If I like the standing desk, I’ll replace the bookshelf with a coffee table, which is the right height and which would give me more surface area to work with, and which would look better. Plus, it’s Julie’s bookshelf and she wants it back.
